Paddle Shift / Eshift GS430 A650E transmission HOW!? Transmission control unit
#17
I would love to know if this is possible for the 430 too. I'd love to make this paddle shift, or even manual if I could. Options here in the UK are difficult to come by!

I am also trying to see if anyone has done this to a 430.
I do know that all 2Z and 1U ECU's support E-shift and it's a simple matter of running 3 wires to the ECU:
1) For switching to manual mode
2) For the shift up
3) For the shift down
I've seen the wiring pinouts for 2J ECU's but not for a 3UZ.

BUMP this one. I may for the 3rd time be coming back to a GS430/400, etc.. I'd prefer the 430, has anyone made adapted a wheel with E-shift (paddle - button shift) work with a GS430 yet, and if so, can someone do electro-mechanically-uninclined-people like myself a favor, and explain how to? or link me to a detailed explanation, a vendor who does it, etc, please, and thank you!

I'd love to see the E-shift modded to be able to go down to 1st gear instead of 2nd being the lowest. It's my biggest gripe when using it. The JDM 4-speed auto aristos were able to do this so I don't know if it could be figured out even though they are two different transmissions and ECUs.

Paddle shifters
I have tried to follow these threads, but I cannot tell if it is possible to add paddle shifters to a 2002 SC430 (or if this is only possible for the GS). Does anyone know of shop that can do this installation in California?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Didn't pick up a 2gen GS in 17'. got an S6.. but considering scaling back to a GS again.. I've yet to fall out of love with these cars.. lol.. Just bumping this again.
I've not yet seen anyone say they can get the GS430 e-shifting.. but I'd love for someone to pop out from the shadows, and be the star of this thread to say "I DID IT!"..

What this guy said!!
I've been strongly contemplating coming back to the Lexus fold myself and either grabbing a GS430 or finding a mint GS400. Something about the 2GS that's pulling on me vs a 3GS. Would love a GS460 but that's another story lol
Anyway, a GS430 would fit the bill but the lack of eshift is what makes me rethink it. When I had my GS4, I used it often and got really good at shifting. I would sometimes shift off gas and then press ever so slightly so the up & down shifts were smooth and sounded like a manual. Miss that car

Won't say it's impossible with the 3UZ.
The feature is built into the the ECU, not the transmission.
So to mod this feature you'll need to find a compatible ECU that controls the A650e as well as be able to communicate with the rest of the vehicle's MPX system.
I was able to achieve this on a USDM 99 GS300 without e-shift by using a JDM ECU.
So perhaps look into other chassis equipped with 3UZ and ran the A650e with E-shift (i.e. early gen LS430) and begin comparing wire diagrams.

Thank you. This is good. I'm bumping this thread to see if anyone has yet figured this out; I'm not tech savvy enough to..
I read that Skipper JP has a box that allows a SC430 to be button shifted.. maybe that's a lead...?

This is good info and makes me hopeful. I've been tracking my 98 sc400 for over a couple of years and always wanted to see if there was anything available that can improve the a650e in terms of downshift, revmatching, or more because I've only been manually shifting with the gated shifted and the delay isn't the greatest and not a fan of the sudden engine braking when coming into a corner. I've also been driving like that for 10 years as well incase anyone has wonder if my clutch packs are fried or not. It still shifts very smooth but firm with only line pressure increased.
