What presets on the ECU are you talking about? I don't think you know what an ECU is based on your question....are you talking about the settings in your Nav system?
You will most probably lose your settings on the stereo/nav. The ecu controls the engine and should also reset but you wont notice anything different there.

How about just taking out the two (I believe) ECU fuses instead of disconnecting the battery?
I believe when you are disconnecting the battery (power), you are doing a hard reset. Most likely, the electronics in the car will go back to it's initial setup.
Surprisingly enough, you DONT lose a thing. I installed my intake and had the battery ( neg terminal ) off for about 15-30 mins. I got back in the car, everything was the same. The first time you turn the car over, it shuts off immediately. Then a "loading" screeen comes on, then you just crank over as you would. Hope this helps.
