2JZ VVT-i -> GS430 tach signal
Im doing a 2JZGTE VVTI swap on a 2001 GS430. I just got the car started but havent driven it yet. One issue that really concerns is the tach signal. The RPM moves but it appears to be a little too high by about 500rpm. Will I need a tach adapter to convert to the correct signal? If so, what kind of tach adapter will I need?

The dakota digital is probably the most common solution for most engine swaps with different cylinder counts and keeping an oem tach. $85

Hmm.. I've never checked the back of GS tachs but I know most have a potentiometer built into them (you may have to remove the rear cover to find it). If your tach is only off 500 rpm, this would have enough adjustment in it to fix that.

I've heard of pots on some other vehicles. On some ford's you can de-solder and swap out a resistor to achieve the same thing. But not sure on a GS, haven't seen many people do a 6 swap into a 400/430.
This may very well be the case, and is worth checking into as it would be free. The cluster has an additional rear cover protecting the board and I didn't take it off the few times I've had the cluster out..
Or a swap to a 300 cluster is another option, but finding a similar mileage one may be tough, if mileage was a concern.

What kind of modification are you referring to? The 2JZGTE is a direct bolt on to the GS430 chassis. You just have to replace your power steering hard lines with some stainless steel braided lines so you can have your reservoir on the intake side of the 2JZ. That and the wiring work and youre golden. The only minor issue I ran into was that the little intake pipe on the back turbo was touching the firewall so instead of banging a relief groove into the firewall I decided to just replace the stock twins with a single turbo.
Question: Can I use the Dakota Digital converter to convert the signal from the W58 speed sensor to the speedometer on the cluster?

Quick update on this issue..
I just got the car running. I havent purchased the Dakota Digital tach converter but I dont think I will need it. The tach works fine. Pretty accurate for the most part. The speedometer works. I never wired up the factory speed sensor on the W58 transmission. The speedometer picks up the signals from a speed sensor on the wheels.
