Planing on building up a sc300.. need advice.
i want to build a sc300 to hand with some supras, v8's, etc. Reason being, its an amazing car, its one hell of a sleeper if done right, and it looks like a ton of fun.
i want to know, what is cheaper, and better in the long run... swapping in a 2jz-gte?
http://www.osakajdmmotors.com/other/2jzgtte/ (thats a complete for $3500)
and kicking up the bost, and adding the simple mods (exhaust, etc)?
or
should i get a turbo kit for the 2jz-ge thats already in there? im not planning on massive numbers, but 400... 450 would be a nice goal. is this insane? at all possible on the stock bottom end?
thanks in advance.

Because of the stricter laws about the power levels of cars over there, the JDM engine uses smaller injectors, smaller turbos, and a few other things that lower the horsepower to around 280. The USDM engine puts out around 320.

fair enough.
i was looking into a turbo conversion for the 2jz-ge... which sounds great, it handles 500hp fine.. but the tranny doesnt, and im not exaclty feeling too good about putting a turbo on a car with 100k + miles.

About the tranny not holding the power, we are all in that boat, except the guys that have swapped to 6 speeds or upgraded autos.
why not? don`t let mileage fool you. many people try to use mileage as a yardstick for engine health, which is just not an accurate method. do a compression or leakdown test and if it turns out ok then you are ready to rock and roll. I have 150k NA-T and I am still partying hard Although with higher mileage it might be a good idea to do some preventative maintenance.
