sc 400 wont shift out of park
hi all,
im having a problem with my lexus's transmission, its stuck in park and really frustrating me.
the brake lights do come on and i have the shifter cover off and can see and hear the lockout switch moving though it doesnt move the whole length of the shaft, only about half of the springloaded distance, the car had sat for a year or so but started right up, i would really like to know if the lockout switch is supposed to move the whole way down the shaft or if there is somethin else that could be holding the shifter up

It is most likely your alternator fuse. If it had been sitting, it probably popped. Go ahead and find a fusebox diagram, locate the alternator fuse and pull it out, it will need replacing. The shifter is electrical, not mechanical.
But before you can start using the vehicle, you need to make sure what really popped the fuse in the first place. As OLT said awhile back and I plagorize, "Regardless, the reason your car won't shift out of park is because it is telling you it's done with this replace the fuse crap. "fix me, or I'm not moving anymore".
