Default Turbo advice

Hopefully in the spring I'll be able to buy a turbo and/or turbo kit for my '92 SC300. I don't want to bottom basement but money is a consideration. I'm only looking for 325-350 hp. Also I'd like to do with no or minimal extra mods to the engine. The exhaust side will have to wait for a while. I've read some good things the Drift motion kits. But I've also read, here as a matter of fact, to just buy the turbo and piece together the other parts.
Lets say I've got 1550.00 dollars to spend. That's the cost of the drift motion 60-1 kit, I think. To anyone out there who has experience in this area. What would you do?
Thanks,
Bix

Yeaaa,,,,, 500 plus hp sounds tempting and I could eventually save up enough for a project like that. But I really don't want to spend that much or get that involved with the motor. I think I'll stick my original plan. A decent turbo with the goal of 350hp max and minimal additional mods. Does anyone have any recommendations for me?
Thanks,
Bix

Buy a small frame turbo and piece together everything. That hp goal is extremely attainable with in a small budget. 2 things to not skimp out on is the turbo, and the wastegate. Go brand name. Also if there is no rush and you have a slight bit of patience just wait and as you gather parts you will learn more and more and more and more and more. Trust me.

Thanks Ashtray
That's good advice. Primarily because it's good advice and secondarily because that's kind of the way I do things any way.
Is there a consensus out there on what are say,3 top rated turbos?

Man, a couple of you dudes are kind of fixated on size. I won't even ask what that's about. I don't want to go big. I don't want or need 600 plus hp. I'm not going to be street racing. I'm not going to the track I'd just like to bump up the hp to about 350. Maybe later on I'll want to go bigger, but 350hp right now is fine.
So any questions I might ask are with that goal in mind.

I would leave the car stock and just enjoy it, $1550 ? You need atleast another $1550 to have a reliable turbo car.

hawk the forums for someone selling a used kit. even if the kit is not complete, if you get the main parts (turbo, manifold, wastegate, dp) everything else can be pieced together. for a budget build the classifieds will be your friend. but your budget is too small sorry. I went into it thinking id only spend $1500 but i'm probably in my build for close to $3k

I appreciate the information on the true cost of what I have in mind. The $1550.00 I mentioned was a number I just thru out there because that was the price of one of the complete kits on ebay. The suggestions I got have given me an idea of the best way to proceed and a realistic estimate of what it's going to cost. Once I get started I'll be back and let you know how things are coming along.
Thanks again,
Bis
