Hy!
Is the supra tension damper needed on a 1UZ with manual transmission? Or is the original good enough to have no problems? i mean this parts:
link to mkIV thread for install
thanks

Yeah, its actually for the accessory belt. On a powerful 2jz with a 6 speed if you are boosting along and you slam the next gear you could actually get the accessory belt to slip and if it slips enough sometimes it will shred itself apart.. Hence the dampener. They did not put it on automatic models.
That being said it takes quite a bit of power and quite an aggressive shift, but Toyota over built it so that it would not slip at all no matter how hard you beat on the transmission, so you don't loose your alternator or something important after a hard pull, or your fan shroud when the belt instantly becomes a projectile.
Most won't need it until they reach very high power levels i would think 5-600+ then it may be warranted on a manual trans especially if you have a heavy pressure plate.

Bringing this back to add some pertinent information about this accessory drive belt dampener as I am just now installing one of these myself.
It does appear to have been originally designed to withstand power well above stock on a 6-speed manual Supra 2JZGTE but it appears that it may also have something to do with the use of the LUK dual mass dampened flywheel on Getrag 6-speed Supras... and on IS300 5-speed manuals since they also came from the factory with a dual mass dampened flywheel.
It's interesting because 1992-1997 SC300 5-speeds and 1993-1997 Supra NA 5-speeds did not come with this accessory dampener since they originally came with a more common single-mass steel flywheel. Also, despite coming with turbocharged JZ engines it is the same for any Japanese market 1JZ-GTE R154 M/T vehicles as well (Soarer, Chaser, Mark II, Verossa, etc.) since their R154's had simple steel single mass flywheels.
Although even without a dual mass flywheel the consensus has been that this dampener keeps the accessory belt stable on manual turbo JZ engines.
When I studied the instructions for installation on the MKIV.com article that Bogery posted above I came across this. In addition to withstanding shock loads under very hard shifting it must also have something to do with V160/161's and IS300 W55's using dual mass flywheels:
