Default Some Exhaust questions

Hey guys, I have a 1992 Sc400 and I am wanting to make it sound like a 60's muscle car. I am planning on doing a resonator and muffler delete but I have a few questions about it
-Would their be any lose in power?
-Should I do stock piping from cat back or custom?
-Do I need to get a less restrictive air filter? If so do I get a cold air intake or just replace the filter?
-If I do custom piping, how big should it be?
-How much do you think this will cost? The local muffler shop told be its $50 a pipe so that would be $200 but that seems kinda high.
-Would I need to get a high-flow cat?
Thanks

I am trying to make it sound like this one

Delete the muffler and resonator first and see how it sounds to you. It will be loud and throaty like the video.

You may like the Cherry Bomb Glasspak resonator, checkout the CherryBomb website and look for it. There's a video of the sound on their site, too.

As far as I know, the air filter/ intake will not make a difference..

$200 for an exhaust setup isnt bad. Im looking well over $400 for a true dual setup on my SC.

My advice is the following:

2.5'' pipe from the manifold flange, delete secondary cats
x-pipe or h-pipe (just behind the trans) also 2.5''
back to the rear of the car with as few bends as possible
finish off with either a nice Magnaflow or other chambered muffler and add tips if needed.

With that you wont drop any tq, should still pass any emissions if needed, gain a bit of MPG's, and have a nice balanced tone with a smooth rumble.

As for you intake question, just do a BFI mod. Its free...enough said.

I've had good luck getting a throatier sound from just dual M2 axle back mufflers but I did keep my resonators since I'm NA and not a V8. The sound on my car is somewhat throaty for an inline six but of course it doesn't have the same growl as a V8. The same mufflers and a resonator delete might give you what you want.

Then there is, of course, the tried and true V8 method: Flowmaster three-chamber or two-chamber mufflers (take your pick) with or without resonators. A DOHC V8 is going to sound different than an OHV pushrod V8 but it is still going to have that unmistakeable quality all V8's have.

i felt a loss in power from the deleted resonator and muffler set up. also keep the piping at 2.25 unless ur going to supercharge it. other than that the car will sound very aggressive with the deleted setup. good luck

I also concur, this is very similar to what I had. I would not delete the resonators. I did this with just a 10 inch X pipe and stock mufflers, and it was very throaty and nice. W/O resonators, it was insanely too loud, in the cabin and outside. JMO
