when u smell gas in the oil its ussually a cylinder not firing and the gas getting past the rings. not a good thing especially if u let it go too long as it will make it so the rings dont seat properly

have you changed the plugs?
My car did that once and I think of all the stuff we did, changing the spark plugs worked.
and change your oil 2 or 3 times.
what we figured out in my car was one of the injectors was stuck open due to mexico gas, and the plug stopped working or something like that... the cylinder filled with gas and it leaked into the pan.
maybe....
good luck.

Change the oil. Then start diagnosing. Sucks on a GE because it's harder to pull the plugs to see if any are wet. Could be as simple as a leaking injector o-ring to a bad ecu.
As for the fuel on then off, first thing I'd do is the "12v mod" to eliminate the fuel pump ecu as they always eventually crap out. Then I'd look at plugs for wetness to narrow down an over fueled cylinder. If you have the chance to try another ecu though, that's always a 10 minute deal. And they go bad very often as well causing intermittent over fueling issues among many other things.
