1JZGTE VVT-i and lower HC & NOx?
I've searched and just don't find much info on this. Obviously a 1JZ VVT-i still isn't going to pass a visual inspection but I am curious to know if anyone, especially in California, has had luck with technically passable HC and NOx figures from this engine.
From the link below Toyota claimed to have drastically reduced emissions over the older 1JZ-TT. I'm just wondering if that has held true for anyone who has done this swap.

Wow. Fifty-three looks and not one reply. I'm not asking "how can I get this engine to pass, guys?", because that is the same old story. I'm only asking about VVT-i emission numbers, primarily because it has no EGR and our USDM 2JZ-GE VVT-i engines also have no EGR.
I'll take this to PM if it helps. Thanks!

So... I've left this for a while but no one has any idea if a 1JZ-GTE VVT-i has significantly lower HC & NOx than a 1JZ-GTE twin turbo?
Even non-Cali residents in other states with emissions haven't had experience with smogging a 1JZ VVT?
It's the HC and NOx numbers I am interested in, not what shops people use.

Thank you Ali SC3 and GS4_Fiend. That does help a lot. I was in hopes that our USDM 1998-2005 2JZ-GE VVT-i and the 1JZ-GTE VVT-i had something in common in reducing raw emissions numbers in stock form. The newer 1JZ being as clean or cleaner from an emissions standpoint than a maintained 2JZ-GE non VVT-i is what I wanted to find out, thanks!

NP, vvti engines are lower polluting than their non-vvti counterparts, or else they would not be able to just take the egr off on a newer engine, because emissions are always being decreased so you can kind of tell generally by what year/generation the motor is.
If a 1jz/2jz is running well (not rich or lean), good cat, good o2 sensors, good plugs, your nox wont be super high even without egr or vvti.
