just hollowing out the cats ain't going to do much in the sound department, if anything you will make it raspier since all you are creating is turbulence. It will, however, make it louder, but not my a lot.

I would be curious to hear how it sounds. I want my 350 to sound meaty...not like a riced out civic. What direction would you point me?

Gutted cats will do virtually nothing regarding sound. A muffler change/delete is the single best way to make your car louder.

Will anything bad happen if you just cut off the main cat and just weld piping in it's place?

Nothing bad will happen with the exception of smelly exhaust and possibly some smoke. The car will run fine without the cat, though. If you are OBDII you may get a CEL depending on which cats you gut/delete.

Some engines appreciate back pressure, the 1UZ is one of them.
