~ Failed functional check - No vac signal to EGR ~
I went to the smog station this afternoon to have my SC tested. Unfortunately I failed. I had about a quarter tank of C16 VP Racing fuel in there but the technician said that had nothing to do with it. Apparently there is no vacuum signal to EGR valve. I dont have a check engine light. The car is an SC300 with about 320,000 miles on the original motor. I had an EGR issue before with my brother's SC and did some research but I was never able to get a solid answer as to going about repairing the problem. Do you guys have any suggestions?
~Thanks in advance!

there is a valve on the plenum, blue or brown, that control the flow of vacuum to the egr valve.
the valve from toyota is about 100 bucks new. you can get one at the yard for about 10 bucks.
i have a spare i can send you and you can try it out.
its the same damn problem on just about every camry i have seen in a while and also some toyota 3vz and 1mz motors.
that valve is just a solenoid that lets vacuum in.
i think the one for egr is on the back of the plenum by the wire harness.
come to think of it its not the brown valve. the brown valve is to control the butterfly thats in the plenum.
those valves go bad all the time. usually mechanics want about 300 bucks for the fix.
maybe someone else can chime in too

odd this was in another thread you posted regarding a code 71. this should be the culprit. being that the diaphragm inside may be torn. but if you do replace it, check all the vac lines.
