How much $$ / work would this take?
I want to put a 4.3L V8 in my SC300. I want about 300HP with out a turbo or forced induction.
I have 60k miles on my engine and figure that could get me a couple $$ ..
Is it possible the engine will fit? Would I need to change the tranny? What all do I need to do and how much do think it would cost me??
I just don't want the un-reliability of a turbo / NOS

hehe
if you think the engine becomes unreliable with a turbo and nitrous; then i guess thats your opinion and no one else's
the 300hp 4.3L motor should run you about $6k-$7k used
prolly about $15k new
the transmission will cost around $3000; and you'll also need a custom driveline since your differential will be off
you'll need an entire ECU and wiring harness swap out and the mounts for the 4.3L engine (it SHOULD bolt right in)
all in all you're looking for about $15k-$20k of work after labor
and then you'll have a car that still can only run with 5.0s and pre-99 4.6L mustang GTs
for that same price you can have a GTE motor swap
if you ever wanna run your 4.3 against my 3.0 I'll happily enjoy busting your *** with just a $500 nitrous kit

It can be done for much less than $15,000-20,000, and it really isn't that bad, but you'd be better off starting with a V8 car, the mounts are no big deal to swap, but you'll need things like a/c lines, etc. from the donor car or purchased used/new. Other than that, most of the work is laying in the new harness to replace your 127-wire SC3 ECU, but it can be done within 1-2 weeks no problem with good tools. Since i'm looking to build a serious turbo motor, and we both want to swap to each other's engine configuration, maybe we should consider a trade, 300hp is no problem out of the 1UZ, you don't even need the 4.3litre motor for that, you can do it with the 4.0litre. So, what condition is your SC3 in?

V6 / V8 trade
My engine is in great shape.
I bought the car with 55K on it and it is just turning 61K. The previous owner was a doctor and had Lexus dealership do every recommended maint. The guy had the money. I am going to be finishing the 60K maint. this weekend.
Let me know how we can work this out.

Slowtan,
When you talk to PHR, just tell them you want them to turbocharge your V-6 Lexus SC300. I heard they had a *SPECIAL* deal for V-6 owners this month.

TT in Lexus SC300
apparently you are in a minority of one (versus Toyota Supra mfgs and 10,000s of Supra owners) in your opinion of "unreliability of turbos". I installed a 3 liter TT in my SC300 and it has been nothing but pure joy. Unbeatable performance, yet purrs like a kitten. Check out my website at: www.fly-hawaii.com/lexustt

Ok, here's a question for ya...
What about California guys who need to pass emissions? What do they do for more power? (not a problem for me, I know the right people, but for others...)

The reason I think forced induction is un-reliable is because of my Chevy Truck . It has a supercharged 383 stroker . I run about 18lbs of boost at over 600hp at the rear wheel. I can't go to the track no more because I don't have roll cage. My truck is very un-reliable and my SC300 is my work/everyday car so I don't want to cause problems because of the price of parts on the SC300.

If you do, it indicates that you need to do some reading of the JD Power quality surveys.
