is my engine healthy??
i plan to go na-t soon, just need to do some research on what turbo would be good for everyday use..
SO WOULD YOU GUYS NA-T A MOTOR WITH 146K MILES??
& WHAT TURBO SET UP WOULD BEST FIT ME..
imma use the car everyday so i want something reliable, but i also want some power so i can spank some cars lol nothing too crazy tho. your inputs are appreciated thanks.
first, does the engine (for an NA), feel like it's lacking power(again, as an NA engine)? what is it's maintenance history?
If the engine feels good, and you believe it's been maintained, then go for it.
If you have a secondary car that could be used for a while, in case the engine goes south, go for it.
if you feel the engine is questionable, get it rebuilt, then go for it (it'll take a while for it to be done, so you will need a secondary car, anyway).
I don't recommend an engine swap for the simple matter that 99% of the engines you will find will have a similar history (rather, lack of history), unless you get it rebuilt.
depending on how the engine was, how it felt to me, I wouldn't have a problem with boosting a 147k engine.
do a comp test and a leak down test, that will tell you..
yes id turbo a motor that has 150k..definitely need to do some research on what would fit you best.
also..do regular maintenance before turbo'ing to make sure the car is in as good as shape as possible..
My advice?
After a while of being Turbo'd, It's going to need an overhaul anyways. Completely rebuild the engine with an 8.5:1 CR. Then turbo it. You will be able to run more boost and make more power and your engine will work better longer.
