Default 266k miles diffential oil leak!! need help/advice

i was going to change the diffy oil and the shop guy said that i was having a leak.he said it was coming from i geuss where the driveshaft or half shaft if i'm not mistaken. i believe its from the driveshaft.

the diffy is at 266K miles, and since its a high mileage i geuss my best option is to swap it out for a lower one?

and plus what seals would i need? for the differential leak? and is toyota or lexus the place to go for the seals?

lmk where i can get the items for repair.
thanks

1. driveshafts have no "oil" in them so it cant leak. it most likely leaking from the front input shaft pinion seal.

2. "diffy"? lol sorry. just call it a diff or preferably a differential. no need to swap it. if it absolutely get abused without gear oil and starts whining then you have a problem. if it doesnt make noise then just replace the

3. go to lexus and get ripped off...or go to toyota and ask for parts for a mk4 NA supra. all diff parts will be same.

this job is done by removing the driveshaft, pinion yoke, and replacing the seal. i would take the whole diff out of the car. that is easy too. any competent mechanic with a vehicaly lift should be able to remove it in about an hour. i have removed the diff, vehicle on jackstands, in 30 mins before. after the diff is out he can replace the pinion seal and also remove the rear cover on the diff. while doing that he can inspect the gears, clean out any debris, and reseal the rear cover. after 200+k on the car if the rear cover starts leaking you will need to remove the diff either was to fix it.

to remove the driveshaft yoke off the differential input pinion you need a 32mm socket or maybe a 34mm. dont remember off the top of my head. it has to be thin-wall socket and deep though. obviously impact wrench is required.
