1UZFE power loss: What's the real Culprit?
I've been reading articles online discussing the 1UZFE and the often high powerloss the engine receives from its crank rating of 250 HP to its real world rating of 175-180 RWHP. I've even heard of SC400's that dynoed as low as just 165 RWHP which puts it in the same ballpark as its little brother, the 2JZGE. I was wondering what the true culprit of such powerloss is due to.
From what I've read, Lexus officials blamed it on the traction control being on during testing, but many other tuners and testers blamed it on the inherent design of the 4-spd tranny which is tuned to provide smooth and slick shifts, as a result causing a paracitic power loss. I was wondering if this was true. I'm looking to begin building up my SC400 beyond just the cat-back exhaust I have right now. Other things I've been considering include a high stall TC, LSD, intake, and even beyond to supercharger, but I'm wondering if the biggest gain I could make is scrapping this auto tranny. Is it really holding back our cars? Has anyone who converted their SC400 to manual dyno tested their car to see the resulting change?
