Default Spontaneously accelerating cruise control

So yeah, I was on the highway with the cruise on at about 70, canceled it on the steering wheel, and then my car car decided to go WOT. I tried the brake a few times thinking that would cancel it, but no response. By the time I negotiated my way to the shoulder I was at about 90-100, at that point I threw the car in neutral and killed the engine. I checked the throttle cables and they appeared normal, then restarted the car a few times at it flew right to redline. I finally stabbed the throttle a few times and everything was gravy after. I have not tried the cruise control since. Kinda scary.
Any thoughts, or experiences? Thanks

There is a good possibility that your cruise control cable or your main throttle cable could be binding up inside. That or make sure that your throttle return springs aren't rusted or lost tension or missing. I have a feeling your cables are stuck. Try hitting the gas pedal to the floor and see it it gets stuck for any reason. Have someone do it and look at the cables under the hood. Only thing i could tell ya for now.

yeah sounds like the cable's getting stuck. try poping the hood and testing it by hand while the car's parked. see if its returning or getting stuck in WOT.

Wouldn't a stuck cable just hold my speed? I accelerated almost 30mph.

My integra's pedal used to get stuck to the floor....if I pushed it hard multiple times while stuck it would eventually come on done though I never found out why it did that since I got rid of it before I could.

If you disengage it it probably releases the cable so it goes to WOT. There could be also something wrong with the servo motor. The servo could disengage improperly and pull the cable. Possible just check out what we mentioned.
