Default Engine whining? Vid..

Ok so this has been happening for a long time... so far nothing bad just. annoying. So if i push my car for a bit (not WOT) just accelerating quickly reving up to maybe 4.5k max my car starts to whine, kinda sounds like a supercharger.. just doesnt have the kick of a supercharger..

so yea here is a vid.. dont mind the crusty coolant...been to busy n to lazy to clean it up heh =p

Starter might sound different because i changed it out (OEM starter died) but yea pay attention to a high pictch like whine..

any ideas?

It sounds like one of your serpentine bely pulleys are going bad. Try removing it and then starting the car. If the sound is gone its one of the pulleys. Try spinning each of the pulleys by and and feeling for resistance, grittiness, or play.

I had the same noise on my car about a year ago... it lasted a few months and then one day my car started smoking up and it stalled. It turns out that the bearing on my idler pulley was making all that noise and it finally seized and burned up my serpentine belt (hence the smoke)

It only takes a minute to remove the belt. 14mm to the tensionor and pop it off. If the noise is gone and you suspect a particular pulley to be the culprit. spray some penetrating oil on the bushing and reinstall the belt. If the noise is gone that was the pulley. The noise will only go away for a day or 2 max. def not a permenant fix.

I would get the noise on start up and it wouldn't go away once the car was warm. The sound would be drowned out by the engine at ~ 4k rpms though

on my sc it its the fan pump. Make sure yours also isnt driving the fan. If it is driving the fan then that is what the resistance is from. Did you start the car w/o the belt on to see if the fixed the problem? Also If it does drove your fan check the fluid level for the fan. Make sure its not low. If it is the pump would make a crazy whine like you are experiencing.
