Engine swapping ideas/questions
I'm just looking to inquire into the potentials, pros, cons, etc of each possible V8 engine swaps for my 97' SC400. This is nothing I'm planning on doing anytime soon and its all hypothetical, but I'm looking into ways of getting more power without going towards forced induction, and no, I'd prefer to stay with the V8, not going to the JZ. Here's the list I've compiled:
Stock 1UZFE (96-97) - 260 HP @ 5300 RPM, 270 ft-lbs @ 4500 RPM
98-00 1UZFE (w/ vvti) - 290 HP @ 6000 RPM, 300 ft-lbs @ 4000 RPM
04-06 2UZFE (w/ vvti) - 282 HP @ 5300 RPM, 325 ft-lbs @ 3400 RPM
01-present 3UZFE - 300 HP @ 5600 RPM, 325 ft-lbs @ 3400 RPM
Which of these engines would be best? I'm looking for that muscle car feel from my car. The problem I assume from my engine right now is that its peak torque isnt that high and it comes pretty late. I was originally thinking about going for the Tundra's engine (2UZFE), but by these figures, the 3UZFE would be better since it makes the same torque, but more HP. Why is there some hype around the 2UZFE on lextreme? Does it put more of the power down to the wheels than the 3UZFE?

sounds like what you need is to buy an american musclecar and start a project
you wont get anything close to a muscle car feel with an SC...

I said I wanted the muscle car feel, i.e. lots of low end torque to push you back into the seat, not neccessarily a muscle car. Dont get me wrong, I love the old American muscle cars (1970 Dodge Challenger r/t is my fav); however, they dont make very practical cars for daily driving. I love the sound my V8 makes and I don't care for turbo/FI, but I want my car to feel and be faster. That's why I was thinking about going for toyota's SUV/Truck engine, the 2UZFE; however, when I came across the numbers, they seem to be the same as the 3UZFE at the same RPM.
The other option that I was interested in was the new Tundra's engine, the 3UR-FE. Now that thing would be a beast at over 400 ft-lbs at just 3600 RPM, and 381 HP. That moster could drop my 0-60 time to the mid 4 seconds easily, plus its reasonably fuel efficient. Does anyone know the compatibility of the new URs to our UZs?
