Default Shifter Removal Help!!!

First off I am trying to take out the center console to get at the climate control in my sc400 .I know that to take off the shifter you pull down the little plastic part and it exposes two screws. Ive got that however the second screw will not come out. It wont catch anything, it just turns and turns. Anyone have any tricks to get the screw out?

No it isnt stripped. I cant figure it out. Ive tried using pressure and prying while unscrewing it but neither worked.
