Starter connection issue? Newby Asks...
When attempting to start my 1997 SC 400, lately the starter will not engage at all. Battery is not run down, as headlights are strong. I replaced the battery terminals, and still the issue occurs. Sometimes jumping the vehicle helps, which makes me think the connection to the starter may be poor, or some kind of link from a circuit. I don't drive the vehicle too often, so it has been known to sit (but newer battery appears strong). After the car gets running and engine warmed up, the problem typically goes away. Before I get under the vehicle, any ideas?

SC300 Answer/ May be the same
I had a similar issue. I simply followed the positive wire from the battery to the starter and removed the bolt. Sand-papered the starter wire connection and re-connected. Presto. Seems time and corrosion just increases resisitance to a point where the starter can't get enough current. If that doesn't change anything hopefully an SC400 guru can help.

You should get the battery load tested to be sure its good. If it is it sounds like a bad starter to me. You can follow the ground cable to the block and clean the cable end and retighten.
