98 lexus V8 engine/tranny in a 92 SC400?
Just saw a low milage 98 V8 engine/tranny for a great price. Is it doable? Is the transplantation relatively straight forward, or do I have to change every little bracket and mount in the engine bay? Many thanks.

The main difference between the 92 and 98 engines is the head and the wiring, not the block (where the mounts are located).
I know this has been done. Some would wonder why you would do this with JZ engines offering more power both now and later (after mods), but there is no doubt that a newer V8 could turn back the clock on your odometer and give you a nice power boost while maintaining the freakish reliability of a 1UZ.
Getting the wiring to work would likely be the biggest hurdle.

It very complicated. You will need the followings:
* 98 harness
* ECU
* SC400 Engine mounts
However, there might be other functions might not work such as instructment cluster. Its a lot of work and money and I dont think worth the time or the money. Turbo or supercharge is better way to go. Possible stroker is alot cheaper.

i'm currently working on this same project...i have a 95 sc400 and will install a 98 motor with tranny,ecu,harnessess, instrument panel,drivetrain etc...the reason for this project is for the upgraded power and vvt i technology with a higher headstart on horsepower for boost applications(turbo) in the future. my advice to you is to get the whole car and take EVERYTHING!!(from the front to everything in the rear). good luck to the both of us!
