Well if the computer is not getting information from the MAF sensor the computer will probably not be able to make the engine run right, or as efficiently as possible.

if u open it up straight from the throttle body, ur car will start then die. W/o air goin through the maf, the comp wont send any fuel to the car, and it just dies. So it wouldnt get u anywhere.

It might idle; but it wont accelerate down the road. The MAF has to be able to read the air coming in; if there's not a tube connecting the MAF to the throttle body; then it wont be reading that air; therefore it wont run correctly. At higher airflow levels (higher rpm and higher load), the car wont run at all... it will most likely lean out and sputter and probably die.

I wouldnt do it; its not exactly safe.

When my maf died, the car ran SUPPPER RICH, it looked like a cummins diesel was powering my SC, black smoke every wear and it actually ran, yes a little ruff and it stalled if u went slow with the throttle, but it did run and drive.
