Default Should I Install my Optima? (Now Installed)

I have an Optima Red Topfrom my old car. maybe a little over a year old. However compared to my (stupid FORD MOTORCRAFT) battery its too small in every way. Would it be worth it to fabricate something so I am able to use it? or who cares?

Yeah you can make something. I had to make a few modifications to make my Red Top fit in my RX300.

However, silva001 mentioned...do have it checked. My cousin let his Optima sit in his Golf for a year and rarely started it (he was doing body modifications to it), and it wouldn't start later on.

For Optima, you need to have the correct post placement. By default, the negative pole and the positive pole are reversed. If you try to "rig it" you will find that the battery harness cables are too short to swap.

You will need a version R optima battery. The best one is the 34R. It took alot of research for me to find this out.

The new optimas come with a booster adapter kit that will make it tall enough, otherwise the GS guys use a 1" plate of Plexiglas to compensate for short comings.

Great battery if you can install it correctly. Recommend 800 CCA.

but, then you need a truck to drive next to you at all times for battery power. I say, put it in the trunk.

The info listed below is most excellent and accurate...I know, because before I started my TT V8 project, I had to buy the R version to fit it in the battery compartment...Now I have a yellow top in the trunk where the CD player used to be. SInce it appears yours is not a R version, you will either have to install new cables, or just not install it at all...

Okay, ill bump my original thread hope people see this

I thought long and hard. I did not want to use 2x4's or some ghetto way of boosting up the battery. I decided to make my own tie down. I used 1/8 thick aluminum that was 3/4 in width. I will prime, paint it so it looks good, but for right now its fine

sun was **** blocking

Sturdy, not going anywhere. Now I just gotta make the cables longer to fit my KnuKonceptz battery terminals.

So I think I am going to buy a Stinger 0awg coupler and connect them up. And just make a 0 awg ground from the battery to chasis. Thats later

LMK what you think

My red top does not look like that one, but its about 3 years old. My top posts are closer together up top and I had to do some pulling to make the battery work. I love the tie down though and im going to do something like that! Thanks!

I am going to make my cables side posts to clean up the top of my battery and when I add power cable for a amplifier I wont have to unhook and add the power wire on the factory cables.
