Default 10" x 4" to 6 "round mass cold intake

The BFI was no longer an option for me as a FMIC now resides there. The twin turbo 2jzgte really heats up the engine bay and intake so I've been looking for an alternative also and think I hit the bullseye. This is a commonly available Home Depot galvanized steel 10"wide x 4" tall to a 6" diameter round that just jams air into the engine bay just under the passenger headlight.

I may paint it flat black and it would cosmetically vanish (the camera's flash makes it jump out more in pix). This intake 100% owns all incoming air from this front bumper port (a small portion of the polished FMIC is visible to the immediate right in the next part of the bumper).

As installed pix looks like this:

$6.05 Home Depot sku 050206927809 Register Boot 10' x 4" x6" round, keeping with the them of this thread, lol..regardless I could not come up with a more effective one, price no object.

The left side needs to be trimmed back and the top round collar needs to be removed (already done in this pix). That takes tin snipes and two minutes. The vent pipe is secured to some predrilled holes in the bumper frame that are very obvious to see when you are in there. This thing is very secure. I made two horizontal cuts in the rear of the vent to allow water to escape.

The 6" round forces the air into the area just behind the headlight right in front of the cone filter. There are no obstructions to the air flow from the front fender scoop for my air/fuel processing toy aka 2jzgte bpu+++

That post #46 at the top is the installed pix. That was NorCal sunshine and a flash lighting that thing up.

I was looking at this thread the other day and noticed that the MAF sensor is different for my 96' SC300. I was curious if anyone has done a similar set up with a 96+? If so any pics?

All you need for the newer model MAS is a new model intake tube that has the appropriate fittings, the intake pipe I used was meant for newer style MAS but I cut it out, fleabay is a good place to find the right tubing for cheap.

so for a 96 model instead of cutting at the red line... just leave it as it is.. then it should be fine?

lol thanks for the response but I actually completed it already with the OEM piping... remove the airbox added a 5 inch rubber coupler as an extension and put an Dryair AEM cone haha also went the ram air scoop from home depot and your measurements for the heat sheild as well all though the height was an inch too tall had to adjust a little....but my main concern is when its raining water gets shot up into the intake does anyone know if this is gonna cause trouble in the long run or does it affect fuel economy while its raining out?

In my RX300, I don't use an air filter in my current contraption (page 6 on my link below) and occasionally when it rains I get some hard starts, but no ill effects otherwise.

Nice work on your intakes, I enjoy seeing such ingenuity, takes a lot of hard work, planning and modification to make these.

For that you should have left the stock on.. If you notice, you are trying to make a box just as the same as what you already had.. And metal adds more heat as oppose to the rubber connections we have on our cars... Spend money wisely

go ahead and keep your stock one,no ones forcing you to do it.

btw the cone filter will out flow a panal filter and the baffling in ur stock intake ducting dose not allow air to flow freely
