Need Help!!!
The car I was thinking about buying has problems. It's a sc300 manual, blk/ tan/ 240k. The car does not pass 4,000 rpms and there's a lot of smoke comin out of the exhaust. I was thinking it was the piston rings or something. How much would it cost to fix these problems?

well if you have intentions on doing a motor swap 1jz or 2jz. It would probaby cost just as much to buy a 1jz than it would be to rebuild the ge that's in there. How much are they asking? Assuming you have driven it, how does it drive/sound?

You wouldn't know what the actual problem is??? I have about $600 left would that be enough to fix it? I'm not to familiar with lexus and toyota motors but what is a ge or 1jz or 2jz? The motor in the car said 1jz too.

I'm not familiar with diagnosing problems like that, but it does sound like piston rings or maybe even a head gasket. But your gonna have to get more specific, does the engine seem to be leaking? What color is the smoke, white, bluish gray? Does the engine give off any strange noises? Stuff like that.
1jz-gte 2.5 twin turbo engine found in JDM Soarer's, jdm Mkiii supras, crestas etc.
2jz-gte 3.0 twin turbo found in USDM and JDM Mkiv Supras, Jdm Aristos (gs300)
2jz-ge none turbo found in U.S. spec sc300's
There's plenty more info on these engines just use the search button. I don't think $600 would cover the engine to be completely rebuilt.

i think you're better off just passing on this deal and be patient and wait for a nice clean title/good running car to surface.
for example, what if you fix the problem that you have right now with the car.. maybe in another month or so another problem will arise which is why it's so hard to find a nice, pristine car out there, good luck!

There's other cars out there, don't buy into a problem. parts and labor for Lexus will kill you to get a very problematic car up to par V/S buying a good egg. Skip this car and move on.
