Default Exhaust question

I know its ricey but I think my sc400 needs some sound to it. I noticed that you can save about $500 just getting the mufflers rather than the whole catback exhaust.... How would you install mufflers tho? Is it permanent? Does it require welding or cutting off the old mufflers? Thanks

Any muffler shop can do it. They will just remove the old mufflers and weld in the new ones. Although, if you are already there, you might as well have them weld some new piping in, it wont be that expensive.

for 500, you can get alot of types of mufflers and get custom piping done for the rest of the exhaust system. just a heads up for you.

I bought a custom built X-pipe for $100, then had it installed and all resonators removed for another $100. Has a nice deep rumble and I still have the stock mufflers. However, I kept the stock flanges so that I can bolt on any aftermarket SC muffler that I want to later. There is a lot that you can do for $500 if you spend it wisely.

I was thinking of getting a catback exhaust which was about $650 but for $150 i can get mufflers. Thats why I said I could save $500. Can anyone recomend some mufflers? I was going to buy some on ebay, but they all are massive...

Im still a little confused...

I went to my local performance shop and they didnt have any catbacks that could fit an sc400. They told me to just buy some mufflers and take them over to Meinke (its a muffler shop... not sure if they only have them in pennsylvania). I would really like to get a nice sound coming from it, but dont want to do anything permanent. Any suggestions?

What do you mean permanent? Once you change the exhaust it's gonna stay that way. If you want, should check out my buddy's exhaust on his Soarer 4.0GT, from cat. back, 2.5" piping all the way to the rear, small resonators, double offset rear mufflers and 4" tips, very nice sounding, only really noticeable once he starts giving it... something that you would want permanently!

search cat-backs on this forum- I have one post where I listed every cat-back I could think of for the soarer... I suggest custom X-pipe (as far forward as possible- as told by planetsoarer.com) custom 2.5" piping, resonators deleted, universal muffler. (if you dont want to drop money on a catback.

By permanent i mean... When i sell the car in about 2years ill take off the exhaust. If I just put on mufflers and nothing else could i always get the old ones back on? Also will just mufflers change the sound a bit?
