Hacking the Lexus Nav/Enform Software
Hey guys, new Lexus NX300h owner. Been lurking the forum, lots of good info here!
Anyway, loving the car, but the nav/media software definitely leaves some things to be desired. I'm a software engineer by trade, and the hacker in me wants to figure out a way to get at the firmware and do some bit twiddling. Things like the nav/dvd-in-motion bypass or android auto/carplay integration seems like they should really be software mods as opposed to hardware boxes. So, thoughts:
Cheers,

I'm a software engineer by trade, and the hacker in me wants to figure out a way to get at the firmware and do some bit twiddling. Things like the nav/dvd-in-motion bypass or android auto/carplay integration seems like they should really be software mods as opposed to hardware boxes. So, thoughts:
- First step has to be download/upload of the code and decrypting/decompression. Has anybody tried this before? Some quick googling hasn't turned anything up... seems weird.
- Has anybody figured out a way to download the firmware installed in your car onto a thumb drive or over bluetooth? If not, is there an up-to-date image of a recent firmware floating around anywhere?
- If anybody's looked at the firmware files, are they compressed or encrypted in any way? Or is it just raw code?
- Since modern Lexuses can take over-the-air updates using your phone, clearly there could be a way to spoof an update request and upload whatever you want into the car. Has anybody tried to capture bluetooth traffic and see how the update process happens?
Cheers,
-Tim
