cell phone service provider
I'm thinking about upgrading my cell phone and possibly changing my service provider. So, I was just wondering which provider gets the best reception (least amount of dropped calls) in the Bay Area? I know it also depends on the type of phone and the exact area I'm in ...etc, but overall, from your personal experiences, which do you think is best? I currently have At&t and haven't had any problems. But I've heard Verizon is best and I also like their phone selection better.
Thanks in advance.

I've also heard that Verizon is the best but unlike you, I don't like their phone selections. I currently have Sprint (thinking of going to AT&T when Nov 24 comes along) and I had a Samsung phone. Reception was pretty bad. I got an older Sanyo phone and I have not had any problems since.

I have had AT&T for years [at a great rate since my company is a grand child] -- even better lately since my company pays. I currently have the digital one rate service which has good coverage in Alaska and Hawaii, too.
But... Lately the service has deteriorated so much I have also been considering a switch on 11/24 when number portability goes into effect. I get lousy reception at home, at the office and all place in between. Other than that 90% of my time it's been ok.
Problem is I have talked to people with other providers and nearly all feel their carrier sucks. So on 11/24 or soon after everyone is just going to be playing musical chairs with providers. What to do, what to do...

T-Mobile and Cingular are the same phone networks so if your Cingular sucks, T-Mobile will suck and visa-versa. Only difference is that T-Mobile has more bandwidth on their network. AT&T GSM is really good in urban areas, but in the valley, the service is wishy-washy. Verizon has the best boonies service, whenever my phone doesn't work, my friend's Verizon does. Verizon long-distance and overage charges are pretty steep though. My buddy's phone bill is sometimes $150/month. Never tried Sprint before, but their phones are really cool .

I've been using Nextel, and I have been pretty happy with it. Bill is kinda expensive but no matter what phone company I use, I will always go over 1500 minutes =X
