Recently I removed the shallow plastic speaker boxes in my 96 ls400 front doors, and replaced them with 3/4 inch MDF baffles and rings.

One 3/4 inch baffle plus one 3/4 inch ring will give you a 3 inch mounting depth of a 7 inch speaker without touching the window glass.

I still have some 3/4 inch baffles and rings left. I can also make more of them.
