Default I know I know, more timing belt questions...

I just got a 1JZ and wanted to replace the timing belt and water pump while it was still out of the car. Any tips on how to loosen the crank pulley bolt? People usually crank the engine with a breaker bar on their wrench, but as mine is out of the car, this is not an option. I already WD-40'd it and used a socket wrench and hammer. The pulley just spins more than anything. Any ideas?

You need to go to your local autoparts store and rent some tools. You need a chain wrench to hold the pulley, while you use a breaker bar to break the bolt loose. When you put the chain wrench on the pulley, its best to use an old piece of belt to wrap around the pulley to protect it. Unless you have access to a good quality impact gun, you dont have many options.

Impact... the ~only~ way to do it...

or, like RT said, something to hold the pulley stationary... problem with that is, that the bolt has probably never been off, and I've seen some require ~excessive~ torque to get them off the first time...
