Can of Worms
Mayur - Gonna open up that can of worms again, aren't we!! IMO, I'd go with M1 as a synthetic is superior to a conventional oil in every aspect except cost. Of course, we've got another member whose uncle did a lot of the M1 research & he says that syns are overkill for street cars. For MY baby, I'll put up with the extra cost & feel safer. BTW - Castrol's not a bad choice for a conventional but the last SAE independent test I saw had Valvoline at the top.

I run Castrol and have been very pleased. I think you will be hard pressed to find much of a variance in quality among the top oils on the market. If you want to go synthetic look at Royal Purple.

Layin' The Smack Down on Casrol!
1SICK - Take that bottle of Castrol, turn it sideways &, oh, never mind!! I'd stay with Castrol too if I'd had the kind of luck that U've had. Fever's right - most of the top oils are close in performance so as long as it's a name brand I think U'll be safe. Seems like the debate comes when we argue syns versus conventional but, just as before, stay with what's been good to ya!! I'd consider Royal Purple but the stuff's VERY expensive, at least here in the States. I recall a Member from Canada that had some better prices than I've found locally. Probably can go to one of my oil distributors & do better but may need to buy in bulk - think he told me $42 for a 5 gallon pail but that's only $2.10/quart & still lower than M1. Maybe!!

Coulda swore last time I was at the Dealership, as I walked past the Parts counter I saw row after row of "Castrol synthetic" on the shelves. Apparently they use it for services.

I use Royal Purple. Up here in Vancouver, the RP oil costs $6.50 CAD (or $4.25 USD) a quart. Mobil 1 costs a dollar cheaper but I still go for RP oil.
The only oil I would use if I can't find RP or Mobil 1 is Castrol Syntec.

Castrol or Castrol Syntec blend mostly. Excellent oils.
Have used M1, royal purple, Redline. Castrol Syntec blend is the most bang for buck
Spun rod bearing on the mobil 1 10w30, this is not uncommon with this oil and the LS1 motor (Camaro/Vette).

Unless you live in very adverse conditions or do extremely spirited driving, any major brand conventional oil should be fine. Just use a good oil filter. And as long as you perform regular maintenance, your oil should keep your motor running well -- at least on the lubrication side of it.
I personally use Valvoline 10W30 and it is fine. No need for synthetic, in my case.
