Default Possible M1 replacement for the 90915-20004?

Hello everyone,

We all know the 90915-20004 is no longer made. I'd like to use a Mobil 1 filter in my 2003 GS-430, but am bothered by the fact that the one the catalog says fits my car (M1-102) is so much smaller than the 90915-20004. Through some research and communicating with others on other web sites, I have a suspicion that the M1-209 filter is identical to the M1-102 - Thread size and hole size the same (3/4-16), and Outer Diameter of the filter the same (2.921). They both have bypass valves, which open between 8-11 PSI. The Inner Diameter, Outer Diameter, and thickness of the gasket is identical.

What other factors should i consider before I try using an M1-209 filter on my lexus? I plan to get both an M1-102 and M1-209 side by side, and cut them open to see if they are identical internally, except for length (apparently, the M1-209 is 4.828 inches long, vs. the M1-102 at 3.404 inches long). i'll also contact Mobil to get their opinion.....Is anyone out there using an M1-209 instead of the M1-102?

You can use the identical ST3614 from Wal-Mart, it has the same media, just a different ADBV, center tube, and can. Mobil 1, Bosch, AC Delco, and Wal-Mart SuperTech are all made by Champion Labs.

OK, I am curious. Is something supposed to be wrong with the new Lexus/Toyota oil filter (90915-YZZD3) for their V8 cars? I sure like being able to buy these filters at a Toyota dealership in a 10-pack at unit price of $4.00.

No, nothing is wrong w/ the YZZ-D3 filters. As much as people complain about it being made in Thailand, I have yet to see a D3 perform inferior to a 20004. It does its job just fine.
