Toyota type IV fluid??
Called my local toyo dealer today and they said that they don't sell the type IV tranny fluid by the quart. They have a comparable one that is a type III?? Doesn't make sense, the type IV is only available in 50 gal drums?? Where can I get this type IV tranny fluid, since I only need about 4qts from my understanding. I am doing this for the first time since my GS400 just turned 30000 miles.
Thanks,
Dean

Hi Dean,
Knowing you to be a "keep it fine" kind of guy, you'll be doing this again and knowing you've got a garage with some extra space, order up a case of T-IV from Champion Gulf-Freeway Toyota in Houston. They have a great price and ship fluids. I've posted their number in several other posts recently so you should be able to find it or Google it.

As an FYI, the T-IV is backwards compatible with a T-III application. However, T-III is NOT compatible for use in a T-IV application. Suprised your Toyota dealership didnt' have the T-IV in quarts.
Anyways, looks like Carpe Diem has a good source for you--if I were you, I'd go w/ the case as well to save on future costs. And as VVTi said, it's only 2 quarts per drain and refill, so a case should last you 6 drain and refills.
By the way, where in Washington do you live? If you live in the Seattle area, Burien Toyota (west of Renton)sells the T-IV for $3.79 per quart, about the lowest around, as other Toyota/Lexus dealerships charge $6.95/quart.
