LX570 Safety? Proof is in the pictures
LX570: 1, Dodge Ram 1500: 0
Proof is in the photos... I was rear ended at a full stop by a Dodge Ram 1500 V8 Pickup... As you can see, the pickup didn't fare well. Totaled. While the LX sustained relatively minor apparent damage. Yeah, he mostly hit the tow package...but the pics still demonstrate Lexus safety... This isn't my 1st Lexus....but after this...I'm even more convinced my suv purchase was the right one.. #notanotherrangerover

WOW! Glad you are alright!
Yep the RAM looks totaled! I am already a believer but seeing this keeps me convinced.
Take care!

Where you able to open your tail gate without issue? Any frame damage on your LX?

It works as expected on both cars. The front part of every car contains a deformation zone and it worked. The rear part is quite hard. I think that it does not say too much about the safety of both cars. BTW, I have a similar experiance about 8 years ago with my Land Cruiser Prado in Europe. My Prado was not damaged at all, the other car (VW Golf) was totalled.

I bet if the table was turned and you rear ended the truck your car would look just like the truck. Unless you also have a hitch on the front. That is what saved that rear end.

A few years ago a late model Nissan Maxima hit the rear OEM trailer hitch of our old 2000 LX470. The Nissan Maxima was totaled while our LX470 had only what appeared cosmetic damage. But as it turned out, the trailer hitch was off by 3mm from factory spec. All in all, the other car insurance company paid about $4500 in damage repair on our LX470.

You are lucky as I had an aunt and uncle killed when a full grown buck went though the windshield and out the back window at over 70 mph.

The collision control is pretty awesome. It tightened up the seatbelts and engaged the brakes (anti locks were pulsing) before I could really do much. Would have been 20k repair had it not dumped all the fluids. I was in a construction zone and had about 1 mile to get to a safe location. Got there and it shut down. Totaled it.
Managed to already find another one with radar cruise. They are the only ones on the 2013 models with collision control. Feel like it saved our lives.
