Broken Latch on Top Console Cover
The plastic latch on the top console cover on my 01 LX is broken, allowing the lid to flop open if I open the lower latch. The Sewell parts list states that the latch itself is not available as a single part and must be ordered as the entiire lid assembly, in gray, for aboutr $250. Has anyone experienced this issue and solved it in any manner aside from replacing the entire lid (which I fear the leather won't match) or a couple patches of industrial velcro on the frame parts to hold it closed?

Hi. I also have (had) a broken latch (the spring-loaded "hook") which was coupled with the failure of the main hinge assembly, which is another issue all together, however much to the dismay of my local after-market repair facility, I did find a plastic epoxy called "locktite" which seems to be working quite well to reattach the broken part of the "hook" which latches into the lower lid of the lower compartment of the console. If yours is same or similar issue I think going this route before taking the hit for a replacement top would be worth the few dollars to explore the epoxy.
Secondly, do you know of a thread to replace the main hinge assembly for the same part?

Welcome!
Unfortunately, the latch was broken when I bought the truck and the hook is missing.
I remember reading a thread about replacing a hinge assembly recently, but can't find it here. Maybe it was on a forum for another vehicle.

The same thing has happened on my 98. I used some JB weld and formed the end of the hook. Although not perfect it does the job under normal driving, if you hit a big bump it sometimes comes open. I never thought about the Velcro solution but I hate the way the adhesive leaks out and gets things around it all sticky.

I'd check out something magnetic. Maybe a thin steel strip on one side and a couple of thin rare earth magnets on the other. A magnetic strip, like the brown material you see on refrigerator pads might also work.

I used Toyota Part #58908-32050 to fabricate the hook.
note: I discarded the vast majority and milled out the hook portion.
Epoxy was Permatex Plastic Weld.
I milled down the Toyota hook to fit inside the “c” channel of the original latch.
PS, when I noticed the envelope see thru portion of this pic I did a second round of Epoxy.
