Adding XM to '05 LX470
We have a new LX470 coming in a month or two, it will have the XM button but not the XM option. Dealer says $750 to install the XM. I see on ebay someone selling the XM module for $369 or so. Does anyone know whats involved in installing it? Is it a DIY, or does a dealer need a activate/program something?

I just got an '05 and the XM was installed at the dealer. From what I understand, it's not an easy install. It took them most of a day to do it and requires a fair amount of "deconstruction" to get it installed. It is VERY nice the way it integrates on the NAV system and mine works flawlessly. My dealer charged me $900, so even though $750 is steep, it may be worth it unless you are pretty good at electronics and want to tear into your new vehicle. There were some threads on this in the electronics forum dealing with installs on an ES, which was similar to our setup. Hope this helps. Take care.

The XM install on an LX470 is not simple. There are wire harnesses to be added etc, but it is a seamless installation.
Aftermarket units are cheaper and will not integrate to the radio/navi system.
I'd think honestly that double the price tag is worth it to have a little button that says, "XM" function properly...
of course if you want Sirrus, thats another story entirely.
