Hard Drive Audio Quality

Hard Drive Audio Quality
I've started beginning to load my CD collection onto my new (to me) 2007 LS460 hard drive. I didn't even bother ripping them at 128kbps and started with 256kbps from the get-go. I was surprised that the difference in sound quality between the ripped songs and the original CDs was quite audible (just for reference, a comparable bitrate for uncompressed audio is 1411kbps). Not that the sound quality from the hard drive is awful - it's not - and I guess without the direct CD comparison I may not notice it while driving in traffic. Of course, all you lucky people with a 2010+ model LS with your USB input don't have to worry about this!
I ripped my CD collection at home to a NAIM HDX music server/streamer and this uses a bit-perfect algorithm to store full .wav (uncompressed) files on the HDD. I can't hear any difference between the ripped wav files and the original CD files (which is how a bit-perfect rip should behave). Then again, the HDX uses 2 500Gb HDDs. I wonder how long it will be before some enterprising soul devises a way to clone the 30Gb HDD in the 2007-2009 LS to a 500Gb HDD (I'm assuming it's a 2.5" drive and not a 1.8" drive - anybody know)?

Well first of all, I love it when you talk dirty to us!
I'm not positive, but it seem to recall when I first got my '07 I read that it was a 2.5" drive.

If i can find it, chances are I can clone it. I haven't had time to research where the harddrive is located, but I believe it is somewhere near the nav unit. Not sure. If I get time, and find it, I would love to clone it to a 500gb or 1tb drive. We'll see what summertime brings.
From what I read quickly searching, it may be a Hitachi 2.5" 4000rpm drive.
