DIY Brake and Rotor Replacement LS 460
I searched the LS 460 forum for DIY brake and rotor replacement instructions but found no detailed help. I was hoping for some photos. Even looked at the LS460 | LS460L | LS600hL FAQ DIY/Info Thread sticky and found nothing for how to actually replace rotors or pads.
As many know, the procedures is easy to do, it just is nice to have some detailed instructions in case you need help the first time (which it was for me).
I found the attached instructions in PDF and followed them. They worked great.
If there are other instructions or photos on another thread, I am sorry. I didn't find any.
New Raybestos AT rotors and Wagner ThermoQuiet pads are sweet.

Here is a nice write up by chasten -

In fact I see that I commented it should be in the DIY sticky. I'll have to get Tee on the ball!

Yes, those PDF's are excellent. I didn't see the little pdf links at the bottom of your pic when I wrote my post.

Addendum:
When removing the rotors there are two threaded holes in the rotor that you can place threaded bolts in to help brake the bold between the rotor and the hub. The two bolts that hold the muffler bumper just happen to be the correct thread size. So get your 12mm socket or wrench and remove the bolts. Use them to press off the rotors by making slight 1/4 turns until you hear the ping of the rotor releasing. When you're all done removing rotors, re-install the muffler bumper.

Completed all this weekend, I used Akebono ProAct pads and the premium Centric rotors from Rock Auto. The hardest part was getting the cylinders compressed enough, and also had a bit of an issue with the very small clips used to hold the pad sensors in the passenger side wheels. No lights, with both axles i removed about 4 oz of fluid, never did have to top it off. Fluid looks good, clear and light in color. Tremendous improvement, as one of my front rotors was warped. Now the car brakes smoothly, not grabby and no pulsing. Hopefully done with these for another 50k.

My Indy shop only charged me $150 to install all 4 so it was not crazy money (I picked everything up myself). With these docs, no problem, next time around, I'll be installing them myself.

About to tackle a rotor and pad swap for the first time on my recently-acquired 2015 RWD LWB. Have a full set of OEM rotors and Akebono pads. Can anyone confirm if this is the same procedure for 2013-2017 as listed for 2008-2012?
Thanks for any feedback CL folks!
- Any need to replace the pad sensors/wires?
- The procedure mentions removing the bleeder plug caps and to drain brake fluid - can you compress the pistons without the bleeders cracked? Or best to drop some of the fluid while compressing the pistons to fit pads back in to the calipers?
Thanks for any feedback CL folks!
