Automatic headlights problem
I just purchased a 2007 LS and at night when I have headlights on Auto, when I leave the car and lock it, the headlights do not go off. If I do not lock it, the headlights go off ok. What could cause this? Is there some kind of setting for this?

If you lock the car using a remote, you will need to hit the lock button twice for the headlights to go off. The first button will lock the doors and the second one will turn the headlights off. Usually if you lock the car door with one hit of the lock button it will lock the doors and then wait about 30 seconds for the headlights to turn off on its own. Hope this helps

First and foremost, and most important, is understanding that the "AUTO" position on the light control stem on the left side of the steering wheel is not related to the AutoOff feature that turns the headlights or parking lights off, no matter why they are on, after a customizable delay (0-30-60-90 seconds) after the ignition is turned off and at least one door is opened followed by no doors open and the trunk closed. The headlights AutoOff feature uses mature, reliable technology that has been in use 40 or more years, almost all cars have this feature. It has no user controls and it cannot be turned off or on.
If you will read this thread it will save me some effort in trying to explain what you are probably experiencing: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...y-expires.html

you shouldn't have to click anything twice or hope that the auto function works.

Auto headlights
Looks like a design problem. If I push the lock button once, the lights stay on. If I push it twice, they go off after 30 secs. At least now I know how to get them to go off.

Now here is what is happening:
* if I leave the car unlocked, the lights go off in 30 secs
* if I push the door lock once, they do not go off at all
* if I push the door lock twice, the right headlight goes off immediately and the left one goes off in 30 secs
What could be causing that?

^ that's a new one for me!
take the car into the dealer...
in all honesty, i think the software engineers at a lexus/toyota take the short-bus to work.

Before I spend time trying to help you, do you really have a problem or are you just having fun with us?

This is real! This morning (when it was still dark) it happened times in a row. I just bought this car so I am not sure how long it has been going on. It is really odd that when I push the lock button twice one headlight goes off now and another in 30 secs!

Has your car ever been in a accident?

The most likely cause for one of the headlights going off before the other is HID Bulb "End Of Life Cycling" and is coincidental and unrelated to the AutoOff feature. If you will observe the headlight that goes off first for a more extended period I think you will see that it is going off and on periodically. Since the car is new to you, and is an '07 model it probably had this condition when you bought it. The HID bulbs typically fail as a function of "on time" and some bulbs fail prematurely. Getting the HID bulbs replaced at a Lexus dealer is expensive so you should shop around if that is indeed the problem. A Toyota dealer would probably do it for a more reasonable price. DIY HID bulb replacement has been discussed in this forum. Nothing you have told us so far seems to indicate that there is a problem with your AutoOff feature. After you get the bulb issue resolved then ask us again and we will try to help you.
