But it’s no way in hell do I believe Lexus is just as prestige as MB. Sorry I don't care what car and driver data say.
"NEW YORK, NY--(MARKET WIRE)--May 7, 2008 -- High net-worth consumers rated Porsche the most prestigious luxury automobile in the 2008 Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) survey from the independent New York City-based Luxury Institute (www.

LuxuryInstitute.com). Respondents who would recommend Porsche say, "They are world-class sports cars for the true connoisseur," and, "They have a good reputation for performance." Lexus and Mercedes ranked second and third respectively."

Lexus definitely does offer a better value hands down.

Thats fine if you dont believe Lexus is as prestigous as Mercedes. Its just your opinion.

However according to the Luxury Institute in 2007 they were tied, in 2008 Lexus was ranked as more prestigous, and then in 2009 Mercedes got 2nd and Lexus got 3rd. Its safe to say they are both equal in terms of prestige based on the data from 2007, 2008 and 2009.

As i said Prestige doesn't matter to me. I bought my Lexus LS460 because i like it, NOT based on what others like or feel is prestigous.

BTW its not car and driver. It was just posted in their forums. This was rated by Luxury Institute which rates many other luxury items not just vehicles.

This is what some Lexus people fail to understand. A car, to other people, is more than just a quiet, beautifully upholstered couch to sit on to get from A to B. S550 and 7 series are truly just more dang entertaining to drive than the LS460, and most comparisons note this. On TOP of that, the brand prestige is just there with the Merc and the Beamer.

We can argue all day whether or not elite7 thinks that the Mercedes and BMW are really worth the extra $20k. The FACT is that they are. The prices prove that. I'm sure they had at least one qualified person analyzing the market and setting the prices...
Yup, nothing says that like a 3.0 TDI diesel

Or S320

Thanks.

LS/7/S all are just amazing and considered some of the finest cars in the world. There isn't a bad car in this class, people buy based on personal preference. We are fortunate to have such great offerings.

I sometimes wonder do Rolls Royce and Bentley owners get in pissing matches.

The argument wasn't about Lexus not being a good car. It was about it not being in the same league as the BMW and MB. Before you all jump on me, listen up first. All of these car makers aim for different categories when they make these cars. Mercedes values styling (though some may think the S is ugly but you must agree that it looks different) and innovation where as BMW valules performance and handling while Lexus aims for reliability and value. It's not fair to say one is better than the others because they're just not the same. To compare them, it's like comparing apple to pear and applepear. So if you were to think rationally, Lexus would be the right choice, but if you want to feel the roads and the corners and be "one" with your car, I would go with the BMW. And if you want to feel important, go with the Mercedes.

Want a real fun car, a smaller lightweight sports/sporty car is the only way to go.
I absolutely agree with you there! Luxury sedans are never drivers cars. However, there is a difference between a non-drivers car and a car that is absolutely anemic to drive.

+1. It has been circular for a while.

I've been having a discussion with a fellow car guy about the Panamara. Neither of us has driven one though it does make for an interesting entry into the sedan offerings.

LOL. That is why I always keep an adult go cart, JCW Mini Cooper S, in my stables. The perfect incognito vehicle to have fun with when I get the silly urge to play hard.
