Default Ls 460 or BMW 7 Series -Is the 7 series worthy?

I'm considering the 7 Series performance versus the lux of the 460.

Does anyone have a relaibility opinion on the BMW 7 Series over 30,000 miles?

Granted the difference between performance and more luxury between the 2 vehicles.

Does anyone think that the Bimmer 7 is worthy of the price as opposed to the 460???

Dont know whether to pull the trigger on the BMW or replace my 2004 LS430 with a new one.

Help me decide...

Which would you prefer?

Performance or Luxury?
Sharp Handling or Lounge-like Comfort?

If you have an LS already, you may want to stick with the same "style" of car.

Otherwise, if you're looking for more performance, the Bimmer will change your attitude...

Truthfully I don't think that the 7 series has ever been as good of a car as the LS or S class, or even the A8. I don't know if I think that BMW's strategy of "sporty" has transcended into an overly successful full size car. Plus, I've simply heard too many horror stories about this generation of 7 series to buy one.

I'm not saying that it's a bad car, I just don't think it's at the top of it's class considering the competition. It's also about to be replaced in the next few years, so your "new" car will quickly be old. If you want something a little lighter on it's feet than the standard LS, try the Touring package on the "L" model, or perhaps an Audi A8.

Just my personal opinion though. Reliability is a huge factor for me though.

Regarding the 7-series, I think its interior and exterior appearance is quite outdated. With the LS, you would have a newly re-designed model. Beyond that, I think the greatest issue for you to consider is reliability. 7-series reliability is absolutely atrocious--a few friends of mine have had nothing but trouble with the current generation 7-series from the moment they drove it home. Its reliability (or lack thereof) alone would be enough to deter me from purchasing a 7-series.

Default 7 Series

Its as simple as this...I just traded in my 06 750li for the 07 ls460l with executive package. Looks wise im partial to the beamer.....interior luxury by far the lexus owns the bmw. Drive wise i kinda feel the bmw is a fun car to drive but beware of electronics problems. I lost my car for a month cause of electronics problems and I am by far not the only one. The lexus is a better choice I feel. You really have to decide do you want luxury (lexus) or a fun car to drive (bmw)

Just check Consumer Reports, the BMW 7-series is plagued with reliability issues, problems etc.

However it does seem to have an edge in performance.

True on performance. Based on MY experience with a BMW, it's 0-3 mph performance driving it into the shop stall is unmatched.

My '06 is off lease in February '08, and I'll be RUNNING back to a Lexus LS (probably 600hL).

Couldn't have been better said...I second that coming from trading in my 745i BMW for the LS. Love the beemer...but reliability is bad on those cars. I actually like the 7 series design better too, (more substantially "bulky" rather than sleek, slim (LS). But, looks and reliability won't convince me to go to the 7. My I-Drive went out..the part alone (their cost) was $3,500...add labor and I wouldn't have got out of there any less than $6,000. A brake job? $2,000 on the 7 series. They are performance vehicles and require ongoing maintenance so...it's just down to whether you are willing to pay those kind of prices out of warranty. If you plan to get rid of it before the warranty would expire or get an extended warranty on the 7, then might be worth your consideration...but you are going to pay a higher price for it than the LS and you may be in the shop more often :-)

To many (most?) in this forum, "pay those kind of prices" refers to the hassle and inconvenience price rather than the money price.

I have just finished up my 2003 BMW 745i lease and it was a nightmare. It was must plane horrible. From the service, to reliability, to the car itself. Do NOT buy a BMW unless all you want to accomplish is looking cool in front of your "friends".
