Default Lojack vs Lexus Link

My LS is being delivered next week, and I'm wondering if it's worth having a Lojack system installed.

Lexus link seems to provide similar protection to the Lojack system if the car is stolen. When the police are notified, both will assist in finding the stolen car.

The question, then, is there any overwhelming reason to add Lojack to a Lexus link equipped car?

absolutely not imho. at least not the first yr when lexus link is free anyway. after that you can judge if it make sense to pay 199 for lexus link and get other services at the same time

LexusLink and LoJack are completely different technologies. LexusLink relies on the GPS and cellular phone connectivity. It is trivial to defeat it by disconencting the battery, putting the car in a trailer or a garage or simply taking it out into a rural area with no cell coverage. Some LexusLink remote functionality stops working after 48 hours to conserve battery life.

LoJack is a small battery-operated unit hidden somewhere in the car. It's battery is good for years and it doesn't depend on anything. Its signal is picked up by police cars, which are practically everywhere. Even if the battery is disconnected and the car is being moved in a trailer, a passing by cop will detect the LoJack signal.

What thieves usually do is park the stolen car on some public parking spot and wait for several days. If the car is equipped with LoJack it will be found the next day and returned to the owner. This is why LoJack reports a 90% retrieval rate.

I never had the LoJack before, but this LS460 already had it installed and I was asked to pay $395 or have it disabled. I decided that it is not a huge amount of money for a $75,000 car

I have lo-jack early warning system on my is300.

So 1 it can be tracked and 2 if the fob on my keys isnt in the car when it moves all my numbers get called asap!!!! I hate this when i toss my spare to my wife and she leaves with the car. I always forget. I forget until the phones start to ring.

I love lo-jack.

I've tried to do a little research on the electronic key. Its a pretty sophisticated system and it appears that less than one tenth of one percent of car thieves would have the technical savvy and equipment to subvert the ignition lock. Now of course if they have a tow truck ........

As for Lo Jack, I got this back in 1990 when I bought a new 300ZX. The car had just come out, it was popular with buyers and thieves, and I regularly went into some high theft areas. The day they installed it I drove the car home and started to look for the system. Without any exaggeration, I found it in less than a minute. My guess is a thief would have located it in less time than that. Last time I wasted my money on that junk.

honestly there are only so many places for them to "hide" the lojack, not to mention they only have several "specific" locations to begin with. my gs400 came with lojack and even the tech told me outright that it's behind the glove box.

good thieves, they don't care what you have. give them 10 mins max and they are on their way

Yup, that's my feeling now. If they steal it, they steal it. I just keep it insured. In many cases you don't want the car back anyway.
