XM Satellite Radio anyone?
I'm considering installing this feature. The dealer quoted me $500 for parts, and another $500 for labor and taxes. He said it takes 5 hours (Lexus Service Manual) as the headliner needs to be removed to install the roof antenna. This price seems to be in line with other Lexus non-LS owners here. It appears though that there is a small lighter-sized antenna available that is mounted on the rear deck panel. Anyone gone through with this? Pics?

I like XM, but wouldn't pay $1K for it. Plus the monthly service fee. I have Nav and ML. I thought it was standard with ML. Maybe it's standard in the U.S. on all LS 460's?

It would have been nice if you had purchased your car with the XM factory installed. I just hate to see them now having to remove your headliner to install the fish fin antenna on the roof but that is the way to go, do not go with the magnetic antenna on the trunk, it looks bad and the wiring wrapped around the trunk hinge will look bad.
I had the trunk mount antenna on my 2005 LS430 as that was the only way it was done and I really did not care for it but I wanted XM. I was only to glad to know that my ls460 would have a factory roof mount.
Your radio is prewired for XM so they are going to install an XM tuner which will go in the trunk and the roof antenna. The price sounds about right although I would have thought it would cost a little more in that they will have to remove the headliner.
Good Luck! I know that you will enjoy the XM.
I see the $500.00 for labor so that would be about right.

I have Nav and Mark Levinson. The Sat button is on the head unit so parts of it must be "roughed-in" and the core system must be a plug-in of some sort, but overall XM is not installed - on mine anyway. We discussed it at the time of purchase, but I was indifferent about this option. However, I don't see anywhere in the Specs where they come with XM.
Thanks Mallory!

Either you have ML, or you don't. No such thing as standard. Pioneer used to make the standard radios. I don't know who makes them now. I have ML and Nav with XM...

I think you've hit the nail on the head.
I have the ML with the 19 speaker Surround sound and I think that is were the difference lies, the antenna and tuner are factorty installed all you have to do is have the XM activated but on the standard ML you have the XM band on the radio but the dealer must install the optional tuner and antenna that is how it was on my 2005 LS430 and I think the 2006 LS430.

Oddly enough, there is no mention of XM in the US literature's specs. Lexus America must have included it there as XM may be a hard sell in Canada. Canada, as I have mentioned in another thread makes ML available with Nav for only C$3,500 on the Premium Package (http://www.lexus.ca/lexus/experience...46FV&year=2007), whereas in the US it appears ML is available when the Luxury Package is ordered for a minimum US$7,410.
