Set button on the steering column
New here! '04 LS430 ML. Help! Does any know what the button labelled "set" is for? It is located below the volume up/down buttons on the left of the steering column. I pressed it today while my satelite radio was on and the result of my pressing it was an immediate burst of volume!!!! Followed by the vanishing of my satellite radio!!!! I press the am/sat button and NO SATELLITE... Just AM radio. I scoured the many owners manuals for an explanation of the button's function to no avail. This is like an enigma to me.

Manually set the volume where you normally listen. Then hold the "set" button until beep sound. Then it's programmed every time you want to resume that pre-set volume, just push that button.

This button functions to set your volume at a certain volume.
Say you're driving with the radio on really high, then suddenly the person next to you is talking to you, so you wanna lower the volume, if you had set at say 5, then if you press the button it will go straight to 5.
You can set at whatever you want, you can even set it to MAX.

I wondered what that was and why it turned my radio down when I would hit it.... Boy, I'm learning something new every day with this car....

Thank you for this. Ok, good to know for the pre-setting of the volume... The "set button". Still the apparent loss of satelite. That would be a "Vais Tech SoundlinQ2" Model SL2i. Still have FM1&2 , iPod (ie-MD Changer), CD and tape. All was good until I pressed "set"/huge volume burst then satellite option vanished. I'd imagine it's a fuse (if there's a dedicated fuse for Satellite) Or the Vais Tuner needs a hard reboot (disconnect battery is only way I'd know to do that) Puzzling for sure. Again, many thanks for your replies.

That's what I have in my '04 CL. I'm glad I read this whole thread - I'd never heard of that SET button, and was about to go to the car to try it. Luckily, I read your previous post about the VaisTech SL2i. I'm not touching that button now!
It may be an issue with the SL2i - Vais may be aware of the problem/fix.
