Default Questions about '04 stereo and speakers.

I'm looking at getting an '04 LS430 with Navigation. Can anyone give me any information about the stereo system like if it will have an MP3 player or if it is a single/multiple CD player?

What about the number of speakers and/or their sizes?

I read where the sub woofer can have the foam deteriorate over time and sound bad. I'm assuming that can be replaced with aftermarket stuff? If so, what should I go look for?

Hey there. I also have an 04 with nav so I may be able to shed some light.

The stereo does not support MP3, either on a disc or any other input. The only way you'll be able to play your own music without CDs is a cassette adapter, unless you decide to go with a VAIS unit to allow Bluetooth streaming audio or auxiliary input.

There are two tweeters in front, two door speakers in front, two door speakers in the rear, and a sub. Door speakers are 6.5" and the sub is 8".

The car uses some odd impedances, so getting aftermarket speakers may be difficult. I replaced my deteriorating sub with a Polk db840dvc with pretty good results.

Getting big boom out of this system will probably require substantial modification. It's a clarity-focused setup, with clean but muted bass response.

This thread may be able to shed some light: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...nd-part-s.html

Good luck!

Thanks Amruss...

That's the kind of stuff I was looking for. I don't know that I will need speakers right away but I already had to replace some in my 2010 Camaro so I figured I would get prepared for the Lexus (I'm still a couple months away from getting my buddy's). I think the woofer is my biggest concern.

I don't need any major thump at all. I just don't want it to sound terrible from a busted woofer. I'm sure the OEM setup will be fine for me.

Is your CD setup a single CD or does it come with a multi-CD?

The 04 LS430 is equipped with an in-dash six-CD changer.

Are front and rear speakers both 6 1/2" in the 2004-2006 LS430? Or are the fronts 6 3/4"?

I just replaced my front door drivers and removed the stock sub. Added a DQ-61, 4ch, and mono amp to power it all. I am utilizing the stock rear door speakers (rear fill) and stock front tweeters (as they kick butt). With the sub removed it acts as a 8inch port into the cabin, which is perfect.

It was a super easy install, and don't get why there is no real talk about this as an option. I am putting a post together later this week on the topic.

Can you post the link here once you finish it. I would like to see how that works out.

I've see material stating 11 speakers for US cars w/ML. This Canadian brochure says 9 speakers. Both are 240W.
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/att...0-brochure.pdf

I see 9 speaker grills on ML cars from both sides of the border. Is there two speakers up front behind one grill ?? Can anyone clarify this?

I also have a non-Nav ML stereo.

Indash speakers are considered as two in one: mids and highs. Physically there are 9 speakers: two indash, two in front doors 6.5", four in rear doors (6.5" and 1.25" for 04-06, and 4.5" and 1.25" in a singe enclosure for 01-03) and an 8" sub in a rear deck.

When you replaced the front door speakers did you run new wires or use the same old oem wire?

I ran new wire from the trunk to the doors and mounted the cross overs in the storage cubby on each, from there I wired in the 6.5in woofer.

I've delayed posting my install up as I need to mount my tweeters in the A-pillars and won't have time for another week or so. This also includes pulling wire from the cross over in the door up to the a-pillar. My stock tweeter/mid driver that are in dash are going out after two weeks of use hah.

I also put the trunk back together in the meantime.
