Tilt Wheel stopped functioning

Tilt Wheel stopped functioning
The switch for my tilt wheel will no longer work.
The wheel telescopes in when taking key out and also telescopes out when starting (and quietly, no grinding).
You cannot adjust the tilt or telescope with the 4 way steering column button.
I searched this site and can only find the worm gear issue.
Any ideas before I resort to taking to a mechanic?
Exceptionally well cared for 2003 Lexus LS430, 83k miles, 1 owner. Drivers door auto door lock and remote mirror control switch also out, and will have taken care of.
Car still looks and rides showroom new, just disappointed with these pesky issues that were prevalent and expected on Cadillacs.

Sorry: no ideas; just a comment. With the same age car, immaculately maintained, 67k miles, I've got a new problem with our passenger side door lock switch.
No other problems, but your post makes the very point I keep telling my wife. You can literally have the most reliable production car in the world (and that's what we have, no doubt about it), but with time mechanical and electronic components are still subject to breakage.
That's why I use my key a good portion of the time to open the driver's door (wish there was a key-accessible lock on the passenger's side!), and trunk. That's why I don't use the sunroof capriciously or any other function that isn't something I quite desire at any given time.
This way of driving is only very slightly inconvenient, b/c I use what I want when I really want it. But it has stood me in good stead in past cars--things don't break as often when you use them little!
Of course, there is no way--short of disabling the tilt/telescoping function of the wheel (which wouldn't be good) to spare that from lots of wear, and eventually needing repair. Sadly but not unexpectedly, I've seen lots of people here talking about how that function is something you can expect not to last forever....
P.S. If you had a Cadillac, you'd have had lots more visits to the shop over the years! =)

I do not think it is the motor since the automatic telescope feature is operative. The wheel switch does not work at all......My guess it is the switch just as the same for my mirror issue.
Yes, the Lexus LS is one superbly engineered and built car, and this iteration of the LS IMO, is the most timeless in design, inside and out.

There are two motors... Tilt and telescope... Each 300+.
Also, the computer, controlling the t&t, will not allow switch operation, if there's overcurrent (seized motor etc) in the circuit. If i remember correctly, it allows it again after 4 ignition on/off cycles. But don't quote me on that.

Change the tilt motor it took a **** on you. Its common. Also while your replacing the motor get 4 of the copper bushing 2 for the motor and 2 for the u joint. There behind the alan bolts. And after replacement press the tilt button down 9 times and hold on the last quickly to program the motor. Im a lexus tech. Let me know how it goes
