Thank you very much for any help on this! I looked in the owners manual and couldn't find much about it.

I believe it is a dealer-only setting. From the LS460, which allows light settings on the nav unit:
15. Headlight Off Time Adjust
After turning off the ignition and all the doors are closed, if the headlights are ON or in the AUTO position:
□ The headlights will turn off immediately, when the vehicle is turned off and the driver door is opened.
□ The headlights will turn off in 30 seconds. (Standard)
□ The headlights will turn off in 60 seconds.
□ The headlights will turn off in 90 seconds.

You can turn the lights off by hitting lock twice on your actual key fob if you want them off right away (will turn off after the second lock). Otherwise, it just stays on for like 30 secs or so and shuts off itself. Like Caddy said no real way to adjust I don't think

I believe that the headlights will also eventually turn off automatically in the manual mode. I know the key fob will shut them if you hit the door lock button.

for battery life, I don't think the drain on the battery will be all that great through life of battery.
I mean think about what percentage of shutoffs are at night with light on? Also the light is not on all that much after you leave and lock the car. also, locking twice on the key fob turns the light off immediately too.
Don't sweat the little stuff.
