Evap not ready
ls 430 2004. All the codes are gone(p0430, P0134 and others) but now "Evap not ready" is not going away. Trying to get inspection done but unable to get rid of this problem. Anyone had similar problem in the past.

EVAP monitors can take a long time to reset. 100 miles of driving may not do it sometimes. If there is an actual problem with the EVAP system, the "check engine" light will come on when the reset drive cycle is complete and the system still fails the self tests.

I also needed to get the evap monitor to set for emissions testing. Here is the procedure for 2002 and higher Lexus vehicles (they all are Evap Monitor Type 6 - Vacuum Pressure Monitor/Intrusive Type):
1) Ensure MIL is OFF, fuel 1/2 - 3/4 full, altitude 7800ft (2400m) or less
2) Cold soak the engine - let the car sit ~8 hours until the difference between Intake Air (IAT) and Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) is less than 13F (7C). The monitor will not run if the difference is greater than 13F (7C). IAT has to be between 40-95F (4.4-35C), so wait until your ECT is within 13F (7C) of the required IAT temp.
3) Remove and reinstall fuel tank cap to release pressure in the fuel tank.
4) Start engine, engage A/C (to create a slight load), and idle until ECT is 167F (75C) or greater.
5) Race engine at 3000rpm for 10 seconds
6) Allow engine to idle for 15-50 minutes until the monitor is set (it took mine less than 10 minutes)
If your IAT is < 40F (4.4C) or altitude is higher than 7800ft (2400m), repeat the entire process including the cold soak after cycling the ignition OFF.

I went through this for years on my Maxima.....and there is a procedure to put the car in ready state but it never worked for me...it was so detailed that auto and manual were different....anyway, it would be ready in anywhere from 70 to 700 miles, I could never put my finger on it. But it was not EVAP, but CAT which would take the longest time to become ready. btw I had the exact same codes....'98 Maxima, PITA because in the old days they put a probe in the exhaust and the SES light is passable...now they plug in, not ready = no dice and thanks for your $50-$90.
