I have an 04 UL and the sunshade was replaced under extended warranty when the car was 5 years old.
When i got the car it was very stable, as time when on it began to move just as described in previous posts. The new assembly installed looks the same and is rock solid with no movement. I never asked if the new shade was a redesigned part number.
I also asked the dealer to disable the automatic retraction and was told they cant due to the liability of me backing into something with the shade up. Then the service writer told me to just cut the wire in the trunk. I never explored this any further.

Broken scissor arm
Don't do it! I tried bending one the arms while cleaning the screen and I snapped it. It was a pain to fix it! There is a crease where the metal joins itself to the end of the arm. It's how it was machined. I'm just living with the bouncing for now until spot one from a totaled LS430 in a junk yard or auto recycler. The wheels are definitely supposed to be against the glass when fully extended. It would take a LOT of work to actually customize because of the way it was made. It would basically be a different assembly by the tim you were done. It took me three weeks to finally repair it! Just a heads up!
